Ashley Ponter

As a wildlife artist,  my aim is to create powerful pieces that capture the essence of the subject and using materials that are reflective of the innate strength required for survival in the wild.

Originally trained by master goldsmith, Albert Maree, in South Africa in the lost wax process of casting, I established my studio in 1998.  I have since developed my portfolio of wildlife sculptures and special commissions whilst striving to achieve the highest possible standards in my process.

Since moving to beautiful British Columbia and very much inspired by modern architecture, indigenous wildlife and the rich art history of the region,  I have incorporated different metals and practices into my work, using aluminum, hot rolled steel and brass to create distinctive wall panels, and working to a much larger scale.  I use strong geometric form lines and the power of a simple distilled aesthetic, and mount my artwork on a variety of materials ranging from natural walnut to varying colour paint finishes.

I work from my creek side studio at home in West Vancouver.
